Last week, the U.S. Senate voted by a 60-28 vote to approve the Bush Administration's warrantless wiretapping program. The bill received exactly the number of votes needed for passage. Interestingly, several of the Democrats who sold out the privacy interests of Americans have endorsed Hillary Clinton. These senators are: Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Mikulski, Mark Pryor, and Daniel Inouye. Senators Criticize Bush Administration's Failure to Monitor Communications of Deadly Terrorists in U.S. Custody
WASHINGTON - In a letter to President Bush, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) today said that the Administration's failure to monitor the communications of deadly terrorists already in U.S. captivity calls into question the ability of this Administration to conduct the intelligence operations required to effectively fight terrorism.
It's time that the left dispels the myth that Republicans are somehow tougher on homeland security. If you look at the Bush and Senate Republican record over the past five years, that just isn't the case. Barack Obama does a great job making this point. He sent this letter yesterday to the White House. Other Dems should pick up on these points, particularly those running against Republican incumbents.
